Bon déjà on est arrivés vers 00h45 ~ 1h00 donc on a pas eu le droit à Bluntsman. On venait pas pour lui de toute façon !

1h00 Nu:Tone arrive aux platines. Bon je l’avais jamais vu en live et ça m’a pas manqué, on se croirait revenu en 2003 et entendre une sorte de set breakbeat drum&bass oldskool à la Roni Size ou quelque chose s’en rapprochant. Trop mou, trop bof, à part un titre en début de soirée dont je me souviens plus le nom et un Netsky – Iron Heart vraiment rien de bien folichon ni excitant, pas de quoi faire jumper un canard.

Après un Nu:Tone très liquid début des années 2000, place à la tête d’affiche de la soirée : John B ! Je ne le connaissais que par ses Podcasts personnellement mais une partie de l’équipe Ilovedrumnbass avait déjà eu l’occasion de le voir en live et en avait gardé un très bon souvenir.

2h30 : John B Intro classique de musique magistrale que l’on a l’habitude d’entendre dans ses podcasts, classique. Bon alors ensuite on est en France donc John s’est senti obligé de Remixer un titre français à la sauce Drum&Bass, bon on aime ou on aime pas j’ai pas plus apprécié que ça mais au moins il met une touche différente à ses mixs en fonction de là ou il joue et ça c’est plutôt sympathique ! Et ensuite ça part dans ce qu’il sait faire de mieux, le jonglage entre les genres de l’electro en passant par le Drumstep, de la drum et se payant même le luxe de nous passer un petit Michael Jackson. Et là, séisme. Un énorme drop de Dubstep qui générerait plus de force que la fission d’un atôme, booya ! Je ne connaissais pas le titre qu’il a drop mais en tout cas il m’a surpris et agréablement. Après ce petit interlude “FILTH” ça repart sur du classique Jump up John B jusqu’à l’ending classique de chez classique avec un très très gros Numbers remixé par nos chouchous de Camo & Krooked (On les voit le 17 Avril au Glazart!) et ça forcément, bah ça tue. Juste avant qu’Elisa Do Brasil tue l’ambiance avec une intro pur electro de son set mais bon, on en parle plus.

Bref en résumant un John B au sommet de son art, un set très varié, peut être un peu trop à mon goût mais c’est un DJ au public assez large qui passe un spectre de tunes assez large pour plaire au plus grand nombre, j’aime pas tout dans ce qu’il passe mais ça n’enlève pas au talent de la bête (d’ailleurs il a prit du poid le goinfre !) avec son style unique et l’énergie qui l’arrive à faire passer dans ses set.
On like !

4h15 Elisa Do Brasil bon, comme je l’ai déjà dit elle a commencé sur un son electro ça nous as vite saoulés, solvik et rouquin étaient rentrés, on est pas resté ! Elle est resté néanmoins très souriante tout le long de sa prestation !

Ce qu’on retient de la soirée : c’était un mercredi, pas grand monde. Pas grand monde mais des gens bizarre sous prod qui racontent n’importe quoi. Un Nu:Tone trop classique à mon goût, on avait l’impression d’entendre un mix d’il y a 10ans malgrès deux très bon passages (Netsky – Iron Heart <3). Un John B au meilleur de sa forme qui nous a distillé la quintessence de ses mix. Une Elisa Do Brasil qui expérimente, et qui ensuite enchaine sur du classique comme elle sait le faire avec quelques très bons sons récents. Le Vodka Redbull a 13€. Et un vigile racketteur de bedo (Faudra demander à Dinde pour l'anecdote en entier! :p).
John B à 5€, vous avez eu tort de vous en priver, même si le lendemain au boulot, je faisais vraiment moins le malin !
Un gros BIGUP au Massive Crew, merci pour ces artistes que vous faites venir et votre bonne humeur !

This title is not bringing good news at all. In fact the photos speak for themselves.

The datacenter hosting our server suffered a huge fire caused by techsupport neglect of duty.
We’re quite lucky that we kept a copy of all the blogs data since we migrated servers.
We are going to do everything in our power to have them back online as soon as we can.

This last part was another time eater for our favourite winged sysadmin that is Dinde. All the archives were migrated to a much bigger server which FraK offered to the community.

The relay we’re providing to dnbradio.com was also moved to that same new server and so was our 24/7 radio stream.

There’s a handful of good reasons why we wanted to have a chat with Camo and Krooked. The two Austrian geniuses broke into the drum and bass scene a couple of years ago and never stopped releasing groundbreaking tracks, keeping us drooling all the way over fresh sets with forthcoming fresh tunes. We couldn’t miss their first time in Paris at the Bataclan and their insane two-hour live set a couple of months ago (full review of the show Right Here) and it was just awesome! Talented producers and (now that we have witnessed it) very VERY talented DJs, it really looks like nothing will ever stop them on their way up to the top!

Yes, these guys are pretty young if you consider the rest of the scene and the quality of their releases, however they still have real good stuff coming out soon so we shall stay tuned in the next couple of months and see what’s coming after their liquid-based album “Above & Beyond” released on the Austrian label Mainframe Recordings a couple of weeks ago. Other EPs and 12 inches on Beta, Viper, Hospital and Breakbeat Kaos, in other words it took them only a little more than a year to embrace the biggest drum and bass labels.

WHO ARE THESE GUYS?!

	- born 1983, Salzburg - cultivates his passion for skateboard since 1992 - studied communication science - won the Musikpreis Salzburg in 2007 - started making sounds with pc back in 2002
	- born 1989, near Vienna - got into producing at the age of 16 - studying informatics at the university of technics - one of the youngest producers in the game - doesn’t like tomatoes

Now that they have made a name of themselves with a nice break through in the world of drum and bass over 2009, they seem to have a few projects going on for 2010 and it felt like a good time to ask them what our ears should be expecting. Camo answered our questions before his appearance at the big “Mainframe” party in Vienna with Shimon and Audio in January. (Facebook event page Right Here)

Was Drum & Bass the style you both started playing with? To what style(s) do you tend to be moving now and in the next months? Do you have other wishes? Collaborations?

Camo: Yeah we both started with Drum & Bass and we still love it as day one, maybe even more! We produce and play out minimal techno too, under the project name “Chrome”.

Tell us more about this “Chrome” project? Is it a gap your bridging in between drum and bass and techno/electro so that radios around Europe will tend to show more interest in drum and bass?

Camo: We started “chrome” just for fun to make some different stuff and it ended up as a proper techno artist and got bookings and stuff. From listening and producing techno, we learnt a lot about mixdowns, because techno has a different mixdown to drumnbass, so we tried to bring the things we like in techno to our dnb productions to create a new style. But we still do “in your face” straight up dnb tunes too!

If you two together are aiming at two musical streams, is it because you’re both very different from one another? Do you have very different or very similar tastes when it comes to listening to music?

Camo: We have pretty similar taste of music, and when it comes to production, we both exactly know what we want and what is good.

Which moment/achievement were you most proud of during your recent rise?

Not too sure, I think its not only that the big labels are picking up a lot of tunes by us, its more that a lot of people seem to like the music, and that’s a good thing. We deliver

Krooked and Camo – Massive Ltd. @ Bataclan, Paris – 10th November 2009

Everything during your set was just as neat as your tunes. Do you each have a specific role? How long did it take you to reach your synchronizing skills? Is it is it the results of years of training, is it freestyle, or is the set planned?

Camo: No specific role, it’s just that we know the tunes pretty well and yes we do have a lot of practice too. You can’t play a set like we do 100% freestyle, because most of the time you only have less than half of a minute to slip in the next tune to get the next drop right. But we check the audience and play what we think works best.

What did you think of the Massive Ltd with Elisa Do Brasil? How did the dancefloor respond from where you were standing?

Camo: I liked the live brass a lot and also the dancers were much fun. It seemed that the crowd was feeling her performance.

We were really grateful to GQ who asked for the sound to be louder. Did you fear that you’d have to play with that sound system when you first heard what came out of the speakers?

Camo: Well we arrived the club pretty late, so  we don’t know how the sound had been before… all I know is that it was still very very low during the time we played, not enough sub!

One question to go, when are you coming back to France?

Camo: I think it will be on April 17th Jungle Juice in Paris … but I’m looking forward to it a lot! (Ed. confirmed a couple of weeks after the interview was conducted, and they’ll also be showing in Brest the night before)
